Global Unit Introduction

Global awareness is an essential tool in our classrooms today.  Our world is interconnected with other countries more now than ever.  "Children in this country must be provided an education that more adequately prepares them for citizenship in society and world they will soon inherit" (Schukar, 1993. p.57).

This Global Unit will focus on the Kindergarten classroom and curriculum in social studies, reading, and writing.  I will place an emphasis on the celebrations around different communities.  Students will be able to learn about other cultures and how they celebrate holidays.

Students will be taking a trip through 7 different countries (US, Egypt, Africa, Israel, China, etc.) and how they celebrate holidays.  They will be able to learn how different cultures dress, eat, and how families interact during these celebrations.  They will also be able to compare and contrast the holidays as well.
